A Sagrada Família tower ticket costs €36 and takes you up one tower: one tower: on the Nativity façade, with views of eastern Barcelona and the sea, or on the Passion façade, with views of the city centre (official tower ticket, checked November 2026). You go up by lift and walk down. Children under 6 cannot go.
In short
- Nativity tower: east, towards the sea, on the façade built in Gaudí’s lifetime.
- Passion tower: west, over the city centre towards Montjuïc.
- a lift takes you up and you walk down the stairs. children under 6 cannot go up the towers; from 6 to 16 they must be with an adult.
- no refund for the tower part if the towers are closed (for example in bad weather).
Nativity or Passion: the differences
| Nativity tower | Passion tower | |
|---|---|---|
| Faces | East | West |
| View | Eastern Barcelona and the Mediterranean | The city centre, towards Montjuïc and the hills |
| Stonework | The older, crowded carving of Gaudí’s own façade | Cleaner, more modern lines |
| Light | Best in the morning | Best in the afternoon and at sunset |
| Who it suits | First-timers who want the sea and the “real Gaudí” | Photographers who want the skyline in warm light |
Our pick: the Nativity tower on a first visit. It sits on the façade Gaudí watched being built, and the walk down passes close to its pinnacles and stone details. Choose the Passion tower if you are visiting late in the day and want the sun behind the city.
What the climb is really like
- Up by lift. You go to the tower entrance at your tower time, store your bag if asked (bag lockers are provided only for the tower climb) and take a small lift.
- Down on foot. The way down is a long, tight spiral staircase with low walls in places. It is not for anyone with vertigo, knee trouble or claustrophobia.
- Not accessible. the towers are not accessible for people with reduced mobility.
- Time. The official estimate for a tower ticket is about 1 hour 30 in total, against 1 hour for the basic visit.
Is the tower worth it?
Worth it if: the forecast is clear, you like views and narrow old stairs, and the extra €10 is not a stretch.
Skip it if: you have a child under 6, mobility or knee problems, a fear of heights, or the weather looks wet or windy. The towers close in bad weather, and the tower part is not refunded. The nave is the heart of the visit; the tower is a bonus.
